Joe’s Pizza

An exceptionally well named NY slice shop, Joe’s Pizza went from a West Village classic to Hollywood stardom after Peter Parker was cast as their pizza delivery man in Spider Man 2. As befits such a legendary place, the celebrity headshot collection here is a veritable who’s who of pizza eaters …I posted up near Bill Murray. When people think of a New York slice, Joe’s Pizza is pretty much exactly what they think of - the slice here is thin, floppy/foldable, and cheesy (truly the Platonic ideal of a NY slice). The crust is the highlight of this pizza - it’s crisp and lightly charred on the outside, with a soft interior that includes a moderate amount of crust bubbles. For the Margherita slice, the red sauce is on the sweeter end of the spectrum, so I actually preferred the white slice here 🫢. On the opportunities side, while the crust was quite good, the cheese could use a little more life. If they bumped up the quality of the cheese & toppings, this would be one of my favorites in the city. But why go through that hassle when your shop is already jam-packed with Spider-Man cosplayers and drunk NYU students? In conclusion, Joe’s is a West Village standout, with potential to be an overall standout. (From an April 2021 visit).
