NY Pizza Suprema

A few weeks ago, after some heavy elbowing through a herd of blissfully uncomplicated wanderers lulling outside Madison Square Garden, we reached NY Pizza Suprema. Suprema has traditionally been my go to for a slice in Midtown, with the “Upside Down” slice my favorite. On this visit, we opted to try a Sicilian and a Grandma for a comparison of squares.

The Sicilian slice featured a thick, focaccia-like base with a crisp bottom and airy interior. Despite the generous layer of mozzarella, it wasn’t as heavy as you’d expect - a great consistency for a Sicilian slice. However, the flavor was a bit lacking and it was almost dry - perhaps would pair well with a quality dipping sauce?

The grandma slice was thinner (quite thin for a grandma), margherita slice topped with some not so fresh basil. The crust had a lightly charred edge and chewy texture. It was a very flexible slice, sagging to the point of being hard to hold.

Overall, these slices still hit the spot. However, some shortcomings held them back from greatness this time. Hope to revisit their Upside Down slice soon though.
