A very crisp, thin, yet heavily topped New York style slice in SOHO. Champion pizza is so-named because it’s owner Hakki Akdeniz is a world champion of pizza acrobatics (i.e. he’s world class at tossing & juggling dough). Now, does being exceptional at dough tossing lead to better flavor? Well, perhaps at the margins. @championpizza makes a solid slice, although perhaps a bit too much on the crisp side (note how it sticks straight out from the plate). This is one of those places that has about 20 different pizzas behind the counter & hundreds of headshots on the wall (some of them questionable choices, like a canceled governor). The Pepperoni + Sausage + Too much Crushed Red Pepper slice is featured here. Perhaps more a champion of dough tossing than pizza making, but @championpizza is solidly in the “it hits the spot” category.
