Andiamo Pizza
New York · New York · Nov 2024

“Andiamo” Pizza (Italian for “Lets Go”) is another Midtown slice shop. We visited for dessert slices after @qualitypizzaco (which I reviewed Monday). Andiamo wasn’t on my “to try” list, but I saw they were one of the highest rated proximate places on Google. During our visit, we tried their New York-style cheese slice, vodka slice, and a Sicilian pepperoni slice. Going down the list:
- The cheese slice was a traditional New York-style foldable slice, with a not-so-crisp base and chewy crust. Alas, it did display a noticeable line of soggy, undercooked dough beneath the cheese, which detracted from the texture. This is common and doesn’t ruin a slice, but does indicate an imperfect crust bake. Perhaps hard to avoid with such plentiful cheese. (5.5/10)
- The vodka slice featured a creamy tomato-based sauce spread generously, with dollops of mozzarella and fresh basil. The sauce itself was rich and slightly sweet, with a hint of freshness from the basil. This didn’t have the same crust issue & was my favorite of the three. (7.5/10)
- The Sicilian pepperoni slice was topped with large, evenly spaced slices of flat-lying pepperoni. The crust was sturdy and crisp, while not being too heavy. However, it was a tad dry and could have used a bit more flavor though. (6.8/10)
Overall, @andiamopizza818 offers some solid options. If you need a snack after a late night of revelry or a full day of Macy’s parading, it’s a decent spot for New York-style pizza in the pizza desert that is Midtown Manhattan.
